Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Blaklion in the Haydock 15:15 and Waiting Patiently 15:35 at Ascot. Compare odds and bet.
Unbeaten in five starts over fences Waiting Patiently (3:35) faces by far his stiffest test to date this afternoon, but he is fancied to land the Grade 1 Ascot Chase.
The seven-year-old took a big step forward at Kempton last time and his defeat of Politologue at Haydock last January now reads particularly well. Ruth Jefferson saddled her first winner on Thursday, following her taking the license over from her late father Malcolm, and this could prove to be a hugely poignant success for the Malton-based yard.
Up at Haydock Blaklion (3:15) is fancied to defy top-weight to win the Betfred Grand National Trial.
Beaten in this contest off a 9lbs lower mark last year, Nigel Twiston-Davies’ nine-year-old has looked better than ever this season and duly ran out an impressive winner of the Becher Chase at Aintree last time. With the ground unlikely to hinder his chances, he is fancied to outclass his rivals and strengthen his position at the head of the Grand National market.
Saturday’s selections:
3:15 Haydock – Blaklion; 5/2 Paddy Power
3:35 Ascot – Waiting Patiently; 9/4 Bet365
