After a disappointing start to life over fences BACARDYS (1:50) reverts to the smaller obstacles in this afternoon’s Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park
Reunited with Patrick Mullins – who won two bumpers and two Grade 1 novice hurdles aboard him – the seven-year-old was a leading novice last term and always looked a stayer in the making.
With the staying division looking fairly open, it makes sense to head down that route on the back of a fall over fences at Christmas. Unbeaten in three completed starts over hurdles, it won’t be easy here under a 7lb penalty but at 5/1 he looks worthy of each-way support with 8 going to post. If there is a genuine Grade 1 hurdler lurking in this field, it is likely to be Bacardys.
