Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Limited Reserve in the Haydock 14:10 and Singlefarmpayment 15:00 at Ascot. Compare odds and bet.
Runner-up on his reappearance at Cheltenham SINGLEFARMPAYMENT (3:00) was in the process of running a sound race in Newbury’s Ladbrokes Trophy when falling three out and looks capable of gaining some much-deserved compensation at Ascot on Saturday.
Tom George’s seven-year-old was probably looking for place money at best last time, having been slowly away, which resulted in him having to make up a significant amount of ground down the far side. The son of Milan was a shade unlucky last term, being brought down at Cheltenham on trials day, before he went down by a short-head at the festival.
He remains on a mark from which he looks sure to land a nice prize and, having shown he handles the track when runner-up here last November, a big run looks on the cards. Hopefully, he is granted a little more luck on this occasion.
Up at Haydock LIMITED RESERVE (2:10) is fancied to defy an 8lb rise and top-weight to follow up last month’s course-and-distance success, in the Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap Hurdle.
Christian Williams’ five-year-old handled the heavy ground – in fact he cruised through it – last time and his earlier Ascot form reads well. A progressive young hurdler, he appeared to appreciate the step up to this trip on his latest start and, given how the race has cut up, he looks difficult to oppose here.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our readers a Merry Christmas and I will, of course, be back on Boxing Day. Enjoy the festivities.
