Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Saturday; Minella Beau in the Listowel 2:15. Compare odds and bet.
This afternoon’s William Hill St Leger looks a really strong renewal, but the final Classic of the season aside, it’s a relatively quiet Saturday in terms of punting opportunities.
The day’s sole selection comes from Ireland and in the shape of Minella Beau (2:15) in the 2m novice hurdle at Listowel. A winner at the Galway Festival – his main rivals also featured at that meeting – the six-year-old looks a lovely prospect for Willie Mullins, having created a good impression when winning a bumper at Cork.
The son of King’s Theatre had earlier won a maiden point at the second attempt – finished third behind Robin Roe and Laser Light on his debut between the flags – and he looks to have plenty of size and scope. Being by King’s Theatre, the testing ground is a slight concern, but it was heavy when he won his Point-to-Point and he can make it two from two over hurdles.
Back to the St Leger, where market leader Capri brings the strongest single piece of form to the table, courtesy of his Irish Derby defeat of Cracksman. Regular readers will know I’ve been a fan of Crystal Ocean throughout the season and the drying ground will help his chances of staying, but it looks a really deep race this year. If forced to have a bet, I would probably side with Stradivarius each-way at the prices (given his proven stamina) but I think I will sit back and enjoy the contest.
