Today’s opening Jersey Stakes looks a really deep renewal this year, with 2,000 Guineas form (Dream Castle) and 1,000 Guineas form (Daban) on offer, but preference is for Le Brivido (2:30) who finished runner-up in the French 2,000 Guineas.
The way the Siyouni colt travelled to the front that day suggests the drop back in trip is a positive – also won twice over 6f – and Brametot advertised his form when following up in the Prix du Jockey Club. Quick ground is an unknown and a slight concern.
I like a couple in the Royal Hunt Cup, but I’m siding with Fastnet Tempest (5:00) who arrives here on the back of wins at this course and Chester, where he came from last to first to win with something in hand.
The strong traveller looks sure to arrive on the scene going well, so looks an each-way bet at double-figure odds, while I respect the chances of El Vip who I thought looked capable of landing a nice prize at the start of the season. A shade disappointing on his reappearance, he left his Haydock run a long way behind when bolting up at Newcastle and the long straight at Ascot promises to suit this horse.
