Fergie’s Saturday selections

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Charli Parcs in the Kempton 1:50 and Red Hanrahan in the Chepstow 3:40. Compare odds and bet.

Though I would have ideally preferred Red Hanrahan (3:40) to have had a longer break than 14 days, I’m taking a chance on Paul Nicholls’ six-year-old in the Pertemps Qualifier at Chepstow, as he caught the eye with how he travelled for the majority of the race at Newbury a fortnight ago.

That was his first start in almost 10 months and he appeared to blow up on this belated reappearance.  If he has come on for that outing, he can go close here off a mark of 130.  As I said, I would have liked him to have a longer break, but this is the final qualifier so connections are presumably chancing him in the hope that he wins and makes it to the festival.  At 9-1 (overnight) he is worth the risk.

Gayebury is the other one I like in this and is trading around a similar price (8-1 best at the time of writing).  He, too, appears on a fair mark and should appreciate today’s longer trip.

At Kempton Charli Parcs (1:50) can make it two from two in Britain in the Adonis Hurdle, a race Nicky Henderson won three times in four years between 2007 and 2010 (also won it with Katarino back in 1999).

Hugely impressive in beating one of today’s rivals over course-and-distance in late-December, the son of Anabaa Blue is prominent in the betting for both the Supreme and Triumph, and he is expected to relish the good ground this afternoon.

Evan Williams’ 142-rated filly Evening Hush, who chased home Defi Du Seuil last time, should ensure we learn a bit more about Charli Parcs and, though he is trading pretty short, I will be hugely disappointed if he is beaten.  Given that he has to concede 7lbs to the aforementioned Evening Hush, it is hoped that he proves easy to back this morning.

Saturday’s selections:
1:50 Kempton: Charli Parcs; 8/13 Ladbrokes
3:40 Chepstow: Red Hanrahan; 8/1 Paddy Power
