Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; : Bigirononhiship in the Newcastle 1:35 and Finian’s Oscar in the 2.25 at Sandown. Compare odds and bet.
Down in trip and up in class Finian’s Oscar (2:25) can land this afternoon’s feature, the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle from Sandown.
An expensive purchase on the back on an impressive success in an Irish Point-to-Point, he bolted up in a soft-ground novice hurdle over 2m5f at Hereford and, though he has much more on his plate in this grade, he looks a very exciting prospect.
Tom O’Brien will be keen to ensure this doesn’t turn into a sprint, but he certainly didn’t appear slow at Hereford and his stamina might prove crucial up the hill.
Up at Newcastle Bigirononhiship (1:35) gives away plenty of experience to the majority of his rivals in the handicap chase, over the best part of 3m, but he is potentially a fair bit better than his current mark.
Runner-up over course-and-distance on his chase debut, when trying to concede 3lbs to Calett Mad who went on to finish runner-up off 3lbs higher in a competitive event at Ludlow, he warmed to his task and might well strip fitter for the outing. Rose Dobbin’s six-year-old won an Irish point at the second time of asking and he might well be up to repeating the trick over fences under Rules.
Saturday’s selections:
1:35 Newcastle: Bigirononhiship; 3/1 Coral
2:25 Sandown: Finian’s Oscar; 7/4 Ladbrokes
