Paul Nicholls continues to send out the winners and he sends two horses on the long journey north to Kelso, where he has saddled four winners from seven runners in recent seasons.
He’s two from two with his hurdlers at the track and Brio Conti (2:00) is taken to maintain that 100% record in this afternoon’s opening maiden hurdle. A bumper winner at Stratford at the second time of asking, the Dom Alco gelding had earlier shaped with distinct promise in a warm race at Warwick and he looks a nice prospect.
That race was won 12 months ago by Big River (4:15) and, though he hasn’t been seen since, Lucinda Russell’s six-year-old returns on an attractive looking handicap mark and is of interest in the 2m-handicap.
The lay-off is obviously a slight concern, so a positive market move would be nice to see, but he was entered three weeks ago, so should be fairly straight.
On the Flat at Doncaster Uae Prince (3:15) is of interest in a competitive looking 1m4f Bet Through The Racing Post App Handicap.
Third in a red-hot maiden at Leicester back in April when he was relatively prominent in the betting for the Derby, the Sea The Stars colt returned to action at the same track in September, where he won in very taking fashion.
The runner-up Arthur McBride won a Goodwood handicap off 79 next time, before running well in defeat here yesterday, and the selection really did kick that former hurdler in to touch. Though he has much more on his plate here and he also faces another three-year-old that I am a fan of (Huge Future), I was very taken with his maiden success and this could be a future Group performer running in a handicapper.
