This weekend sees the top of the table clash between unbeaten Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday in the first Old Firm clash of the season. Totesport rate second-placed Celtic as their 5/4 favourites, but Rangers will tempt many punters at 9/4 with Paddy Power, especially as they hold the head-to-head call since 2007 with eight wins to Celtic’s five in all competitions.
However, historians will point to a draw at 9/4 shot with Betfred, as that was the outcome in two of their last three clashes here, but with just two 0-0 scorelines during their last 11 meetings, a 1-1 could prove best (6/1, William Hill).
A draw would certainly help third-placed Motherwell, who may catch up if they can see off Dundee United (15/8, Paddy Power) at Fir Park where they are marginal 6/4 favourites.
The Well led at Ibrox on Saturday before collapsing, but will want to get back to the form that saw them win three of their previous four. United meanwhile, have conceded in every match on the road so far, which reads well for Motherwell who are 10/3 (Ladbrokes) to lead at the end of each half.
Hearts will also look to make up ground in the race for third place and are 888sport’s 4/7 jollies to see of bottom-placed St Mirren (9/2, Stan James). The Jambos return to Tynecastle in buoyant mood following a 1-0 win at Aberdeen – a scoreline that the pair produced here in January, and is this time available at 6/1 (Coral).
St Johnstone climbed up two places in the SPL last week, and will be hoping to build on that at Hamilton (13/10, Partybets) where Betdaq rate them 15/8 to land their first away win.
Those odds are worth considering too, as the Accies are just one point off the bottom having remained winless during their last five matches, and are still without a home win this season.
Aberdeen will look to put last week’s home defeat to Hearts behind them in the live Saturday lunchtime kick-off when they host Hibernian, who are just one point above them in eighth.
Despite the loss to Hearts, bet365 still make the Dons 6/5 favourites to get back on the winning trail against a team that conceded twice as many goals than they have scored on the road. With that in mind, the home side are well priced at 3/1 (William Hill) to win this by a one-goal margin.
Inverness have accumulated seven points from their last three matches, hoisting them into fourth place as a result, and that could read even better if they snatch all three points away at Kilmarnock (11/8, 888sport).
