Fergie’s double on Saturday

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Colin’s Sister 14:40 and Our Kaempfer 15:15 both at Chepstow. Compare odds and bet.

The jumps season picked up yesterday, but steps forward in a massive way at Chepstow this afternoon, where the ToteQuadpot Novices’ Chase looks a race to savour.

Despite the fact that Thistlecrack didn’t even receive an entry for the race (had originally been pencilled in to debut here) and that fact that only six go to post, this looks a race that is sure to throw up plenty of future winners.

Flying Angel was an impressive winner on debut for Nigel Twiston-Davies and is very much one that I am wanting onside in this division this term.  However, he faces no easy task today, especially with Clan Des Obeaux receiving a huge four-year-old allowance.

Paul Nicholls’ imposing son of Kapgarde looked a chaser in waiting during his juvenile season last term and is hugely respected.  With smart hurdler Rock The Kasbah and a useful pair of Nicky Henderson inmates also in opposition, I would normally suggest this a race to savour, but Our Kaempfer (3:15) is a bigger price than I expected and, as such, suggest he is worth a small interest at the odds.

Regular readers will know, I am a big fan (and have been for some time) of Charlie Longsdon’s good-looking seven-year-old, who ran well on this card 12 months ago.  He is built for fences and, with the stable in good form, he is worth chancing at the prices (opened up 14-1 on Friday).

Earlier Colin’s Sister (2:40) can win the mares’ novices’ hurdle for Fergal O’Brien and Paddy Brennan.

A non-runner at Hereford on Thursday, the five-year-old has some solid form in defeat in the book from bumpers last term and should relish this step up in trip.  With her main market rivals carrying penalties, the daughter of Central Park can make the perfect start to her career over jumps.  Trading at 2-1 overnight, any rain would further enhance her claims.

Saturday’s selections:

2:40 Chepstow           Colin’s Sister 2/1 BetVictor

3:15 Chepstow           Our Kaempfer 10/1 BetVictor
