Monster double on Saturday

Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; Shraaoh in the Goodwood 2.35 and Black Ace in the Halway 2.40. Compare odds and bet.

Heavily supported at Royal Ascot Shraaoh (2:35) looks worth another chance off the same mark at Goodwood this afternoon, having suffered a terrible passage in the King George V Stakes last time.

The Sea The Stars colt had earlier won a Newcastle maiden in impressive fashion, which came on the back of a Nottingham third.  That race has worked out really well and was won by yesterday’s winner and stable-mate Poet’s Word.  This trip and the quicker ground should suit and he looks worthy of each-way support – he was trading at 7-1 overnight.

Another to back each-way is Black Ace (2:40) in the opening maiden hurdle at Galway, for Noel Meade and Sean Flanagan.

I put this horse up just 13 days ago, when beaten in a bumper, but he was ridden wide throughout that day and might well have bumped into a useful performer.  This looks a fair maiden, with plenty of respect handed to debutant Rogue Angel, whilst both Timing’severything and Art Of Security were both useful performers in bumpers.

The latter could represent a bit of value (trading at 12-1 overnight), but preference is for Black Ace, who is clearly in good heart at present, having won a decent bumper at Kilbeggan (third has won twice over hurdles since), and the form of his point-to-point second reads particularly well (front four have all won under rules).  He was available at 5-1 overnight.
