Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Bacchus in the Newmarket 2.50 and Curbyourenthusiasm NR in the 3.40 at York. Compare odds and bet.
Curbyourenthusiasm (3:40 NR) is a very smart stayer in the making and, with the drying conditions very much to his liking, David Simcock’s grey is fancied to land the John Smith’s Silver Cup Stakes at York this afternoon.
The five-year-old ran well at this meeting 12 months ago and again shaped with promise over course-and-distance on his reappearance. An impressive handicap winner at Doncaster last September, he missed the Gold Cup due to soft ground at Royal Ascot (declared a non-runner) and I believe he will make up into a Group class performer before the season is out.
In the same contest, keep an eye on Sir Chauvelin who ran really well when fourth in the consolation race for the Northumberland Plate a fortnight ago. Jim Goldie’s four-year-old faces a stiff ask at the weights here, but he looks sure to be suited by the slightly shorter trip and he could well travel up strongly. He is one to note at likely bigger odds.
Down at Newmarket Bacchus (2:50) is of interest in the 7f nursery, for Brian Meehan and Frankie Dettori. A soft-ground winner at Haydock just nine days ago, the Kheleyf gelding travelled very sweetly on that occasion (as he had done on quicker ground on debut) and looks fairly treated on an opening mark of 85.
