Live on SkySports 3: Sun 04.00: Australia are 11/10 (William Hill) to bounce back and win the 1st ODI and there are signs they can do it.
Ponting does not like to lose, neither do the Australian team in general and a 3rd straight Test defeat and a 2-0 series loss to India will have them seething. So they start a 3 game ODI series with India in Kochi as 11/8 outsiders (Coral), while the hosts are a comfy 4/5 at Bet365.
A quick look at the recent form confirms the Aussies are the ODI force everyone knows them to be – winning 15 of their 21 ODI’s so far in 2010. They’ve won every series this year apart from when they faced a buoyant England in serious swing conditions (which they actually won 2 matches of out of 5) and there is a good chance they will get off to a winning start in Kochi, in calmer weather. The 11/10 (Boylesports) about Australia is worth taking; while Watson and Ponting will be rested, Paine and Cameron White can provide the fireworks, the latter is 15/2 at Coral to top score.
It would be foolish to completely write off India but with 11 wins from 21 attempts in 2010, India have not played in India since losing to South Africa in February. The Aussies racked up some big scores in the Tests and look good to cause a shock here.
As for the series, Inida should be looking to win at least 1 and with Australia’s inexperienced attack, the Aussies can probably only spring a surprise victory once. India to win the series 2-1 is 17/10 at bet365 (before the 1st ODI) but if you believe Australia will win this one, wait until the tourists are 1 up to back the Inida series win.
