Live on Skysports 2: Sat 12.15: Peterborough can collect a maximum at Hartlepool and keep the pressure on Brighton in League 1.
Top of the pile and with thirteen points from a possible fifteen at the Withdean Stadium, Brighton are odds-on at 10/11 with Betdaq to rack up another home win but as they entertain third-placed Bournemouth, that price looks plenty skinny enough and a touch risky, despite the Cherries’ less than convincing form on the road.
Instead, it could be worth focusing on goals, or a lack of them, in the televised, lunchtime kick-off. The hosts have averaged fewer than two goals a game on their own patch while the visitors have notched just six times in five away fixtures and subsequently this one catches the eye at 10/11 (888Sport) to be the sixth Albion clash in seven to yield under 2.5 goals.
Two points adrift of the Seagulls are Peterborough and they can keep the pressure on the leaders by securing a maximum haul at Hartlepool. The home side have performed reasonably well on their travels and indeed they collected three points at Plymouth last weekend, however, their only success at Victoria Park came against rock bottom Walsall and they have shipped a hatful of goals in front of their own supporters losing 4-0 and 5-0 respectively, to Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday.
A leaky defence is exactly what you don’t want against a team with such a potent strikeforce and after their victory at high-flying Carlisle last Saturday, Posh look huge at 13/10 (William Hill) to capitalise on ‘Pools’ vulnerability. Craig Mackail-Smith meanwhile has notched in his last four league games and he looks tremendous value at 2/1 with Coral to add to his tally in this one.
Colchester have drawn four out of their last five and their home record is identical to that sequence of form, however they can capitalise on Huddersfield’s stuttering form this weekend. The U’s are 6/4 (William Hill) to overcome the Terriers, who have lost their last three in the league and failed to score on each occasion.
Two of the division’s big-hitters got back to winning ways last week and both Sheffield Wednesday (4/6, Stan James) and Southampton (2/5, Totesport) can triumph again as they respectively host strugglers Leyton Orient and Tranmere.
Finally, Walsall have taken just one point from their last seven games and went down at home to Yeovil a week ago. Exeter can heap more misery on the beleaguered Saddlers at the Bescot Stadium this weekend and William Hill quote the Grecians at 15/8 to increase the pressure on under-fire boss Chris Hutchings.
