It’s top against bottom in League Two this weekend as Port Vale head to Hereford; Vale are 17/20 (William Hill) for 3 more points.
Hereford have accrued just four goals and five points in ten games, it would be easy to just go with the formbook and pile into the Valiants at 17/20 with Partybets.
Nevertheless, caution is advised where this fixture is concerned as the Bulls sacked manager Simon Davey on Monday and a change at the helm can often lead to a huge improvement in the short term. Admittedly, Hereford went down 3-0 at home to Exeter in the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy on Tuesday but it’s this clash that caretaker boss Jamie Pitman will have been gearing towards and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for Victor Chandler’s 18/5 outsiders to rouse themselves and get a result, even if the visitors are deserved favourites.
By contrast, two of the chasing pack are worth backing. Second-placed Chesterfield lost their hundred percent home record last weekend but the 5-5 draw with Crewe will have felt like a win after the Spireites battled back from 4-1 down and they can build on that result by seeing off Southend; a result priced by Betfred at 5/6. All five of the hosts’ home games have generated three or more goals and as a massive ten went in at the b2net Stadium last weekend, a tasty alternative to the match bet is Betdaq’s 5/6 for the contest to produce over 2.5 successful strikes.
Third-placed Rotherham have lost just once all season and it seems inconceivable that they are odds-against as they entertain patchy Stevenage. Borough have won their last two on the road but those victories were against Hereford and Lincoln, who are both in the bottom three and a home defeat to Wycombe last time out doesn’t send them to the Don Valley Stadium in the best of shape. A Millers triumph therefore looks enormous at 23/20 (William Hill) especially when you consider the form of Adam Le Fondre; a 6/5 chance at Paddy Power to grab his tenth in eleven matches at some stage.
Elsewhere, mid-table Cheltenham look solid at Whaddon Road and fresh from a 2-0 victory at Aldershot they’re overpriced at 6/4 with Coral to see off a sorry-looking Northampton side and Barnet can prevail in a basement battle at home to Bradford, the Bees on offer at 13/8 (William Hill).
Crewe’s clash with Torquay at Gresty Road meanwhile, is another that looks set to be high-scoring and bet365 quote 9/10 for those two sides to share at least three goals.
