Paul Ferguson one selection for us on Saturday; Saint Charles in the Newbury 2.50. Compare odds and bet.
Down at Newbury Saint Charles (2:50) can make a winning belated reappearance in the Ladbrokes Supporting Greatwood Handicap Hurdle.
Nicky Henderson’s six-year-old was last seen finishing runner-up to Thistlecrack at Ascot, form that makes him look potentially well treated racing from a mark of 131 here. The smart Otago Trail was back in third that day and his earlier form, when beating Work In Progress and Our Kaempfer, also reads pretty well.
There is obviously a concern over the lengthy lay-off (385 days), but he has held entries recently and has, therefore, presumably been ready to go for a couple of weeks now. It is also presumed that the first time hood is to help eradicate any freshness and he will need to be winning this if he is to take up either engagement at the Cheltenham Festival, where he holds entries in the Coral Cup and Martin Pipe.
Saturday’s selection:
2:50 Newbury: Saint Charles; 3/1 Coral
