Joachim Low’s Germany face Turkey and certainly know how to knock the goals in when it comes to qualifiers.
Friday’s Euro 2012 programme has it’s fair share of bankers but as is often the case during international breaks, many of those are barely even worth adding to an accumulator, with the likes of Hungary available at 1/40 with 888Sport to see off San Marino, Slovenia priced at 1/20 by Paddy Power to defeat the Faroe Islands and defending champions Spain quoted at 1/14 by Betdaq to send Lithuania home empty-handed.
Those three teams combine at just 1/7 so it’s fair to say that punters should look elsewhere for value. The first port of call is Berlin where World Cup semi-finalists and Euro 2008 runners-up Germany tackle Turkey. The hosts, who rarely have trouble qualifying for major tournaments, have started with two wins in Group A and they should land three points in this one. However, at 1/2 with Ladbrokes Joachim Low’s men don’t really set the pulse racing, especially as the visitors also have six points from an available six.
Concentrating on the home side’s ability to find the net is a potentially lucrative, alternative approach. Germany notched 26 goals in ten games on their way to South Africa while in qualifying for Euro 2008 they amassed an impressive 35 in a dozen outings. They obviously don’t struggle in front of goal then and at 2/1 (bet365) to notch on three or more occasions, they’re a decent bet.
Victor Chandler offer an identical price for the match to contain four or more goals, a wager made more attractive by the fact that the Germans conceded against Azerbaijan last time out and could let at least one in here, but arguably the best goals-related flutter is Partybets’ 6/5 for Joachim Low’s charges to find the net in both halves.
Portugal have made a dismal start to the qualification campaign, losing in Norway and drawing at home to Cyprus. Those results have cost Carlos Queiroz his job with Paulo Bento stepping in for now and the interim coach, who won’t be afraid to ‘win ugly’, can add some steel to the Portuguese side; quoted at 8/13 (Ladbrokes) ahead of the must-win game against Denmark.
Slovakia head to Armenia with a hundred percent record in Group B, Vladimir Weiss’ side having shown tremendous resilience to win in Russia last time out, and at 8/11 with William Hill, they’re good value to make it three out of three as they head to Armenia.
Elsewhere, Albania (11/5, Stan James) have been underestimated a touch ahead of the home clash against Bosnia and they’re a solid-looking proposition at 5/4, ‘Draw no Bet’ with Paddy Power. Similarly, fresh from the 4-4 stalemate in Portugal, Cyprus can make life difficult for Group H leaders Norway and they too catch the eye in the ‘Draw No Bet’ market, at 5/4, this time courtesy of Stan James.
Finally, England can get an indicator of what’s in store for them on Tuesday as their midweek opponents Montenegro tackle Switzerland. It’s tough to separate the pair and Ladbrokes’ 23/10 marked against the draw looks the best bet in Podgorica.
