Live on Sky Sports 2: Sat 12.30: An 11/1 draw double (Skybet) is one of Peter Sharkey’s three Scottish Premiership selections.
Scotland’s match of the day pits in-form Aberdeen against champions Celtic at Pittodrie in what promises to be a compelling contest. The Dons, boasting a 100% record, could leapfrog Celtic and go top of the Premiership should they win, although bet365’s 3/1 odds against them achieving this says much about the weight of history rather than current form.
Celtic, Stan James’s 10/11 favourites to register three points, won all four of the pair’s duels last season, scoring nine goals in the process, conceding only twice. Incredibly, Celtic have not failed to score against Aberdeen in a league match since December 2001, a statistic which adds appeal to BetVictor’s 4/5 odds for both teams to score.
Under the circumstances, Skybet’s 27/10 for the match to end all-square looks worthy of further consideration – a 1-1 draw is priced at 6/1 by Paddy Power.
Dundee United and Kilmarnock served up 11 goals in three league meetings last season and backers expecting more of the same can get 5/6 (Winner.com) against Saturday’s duel yielding more than 2.5 goals, although William Hill’s 4/5 starting price posted against a United victory suggests that bookies anticipate the majority of goals to come from the home side.
Motherwell and Ross County have drawn two of their last half dozen contests; the other four were settled by a single goal. With both sides priced at 7/4 to win (with Ladbrokes and bet365 respectively), backing Stan James’s 10/3 for Motherwell to win by a single goal appears to make sense.
Partick have been installed as BetVictor’s marginal 17/10 favourites to take three points from Saturday’s duel with Dundee (19/10, Skybet), even though the Dark Blues emerged victorious from the only fixture the pair didn’t draw last season. Paddy Power rate the stalemate a 23/10 shot as Winner.com post 7/2 against both halves finishing on level terms.
Few punters mulling over the possible outcome of Saturday’s duel between St Johnstone and Hamilton are likely to be anticipating a goalfest. Two of the pair’s three meetings last season finished 1-0 in the Accies’ favour, while the other ended one apiece, a mini-trend which explains the popularity of Ladbrokes’ 11/2 odds against fans being treated to another 1-1 draw.
