Paul Ferguson has two selections from Ludlow for us on Thursday; Always Lion in the 2.30 at Ludlow and Robins Reef in the Ludlow 3.30. Compare odds and bet.
There is some really interesting action from both sides of the Irish Sea on Thursday, with Vroum Vroum Mag and Road To Riches among those on show over at Clonmel, while Champion Bumper runner-up Modus makes his debut over hurdles on his first start for Paul Nicholls and JP McManus at Taunton.
Ludlow also stages a decent card and the introductory hurdle looks of particular interest, with Robin Of Locksley showing plenty of promise on his British debut at Cheltenham and Dalia Pour Moi was a shade unlucky not to make a winning debut under rules at Wetherby recently. The latter fairly tanked through that contest, however, so he will need to settle over this slightly longer trip.
With that in mind, at the prices, it might be worth backing Always Lion (2:30) each-way (trading at 13-2 overnight).
A useful bumper performer, he finished a narrow second on his hurdles bow at Worcester, where he stayed on again in the closing stages, suggesting this step up in trip should suit. Some of Ben Pauling’s horses have come on for their first start of the season and, if that is the case, the five-year-old looks capable of going close.
Later on the card Robins Reef (3:30) should be tough to beat in the mares’ only maiden hurdle.
Nicky Henderson’s daughter of Robins Des Champs was impressive in winning bumpers at Market Rasen and Kempton, with a sound fifth in Listed company sandwiched in between. The five-year-old looks a speedy sort, so the track ought to suit, and she can make a winning reappearance. The second selection of the day was available at 11-8 on Wednesday evening.
Thursday’s selections:
2:30 Ludlow: Always Lion; 13/2 bet365
3:30 Ludlow: Robins Reef; 4/5 William Hill
