Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Big River in the Kelso 1.55 and High Bridge in the Cheltenham 5.40. Compare odds and bet.
John Ferguson and Aidan Coleman got Cheltenham’s Showcase meeting off to the best possible start and the pair can book-end the two-day fixture with High Bridge (5:40) in the concluding bumper on Saturday.
The stable’s horses are in fine form at present and this son of Monsun finished runner-up in a decent Kempton bumper on debut in February, form that reads particularly well now (Ok Corral went on to finish second at the Punchestown Festival and the third The Unit won the DBS Bumper at Newbury next time out).
Today’s better ground ought to suit the four-year-old who, despite this looking a potentially warm affair, is fancied to make the most of the 7lbs he receives from the previous winners.
Up at Kelso Big River (1:55) can take the opening maiden hurdle for Lucinda Russell and Peter Buchanan.
A full-brother to Prince Of Pirates, the five-year-old finished runner-up in an Irish point-to-point before joining his current connections, for whom he performed well in couple of well-contested bumpers.
Runner-up to a nice sort at Newcastle, he went one better at this track in the spring and, though the runner-up failed to advertise the form on Friday, the selection looks just the type to do well in northern novice hurdles this season – he might need a little further in time, but his class can see him home today.
Over in Ireland Timing’Severything is another who should shed his maiden tag over hurdles, but I suspect he will be pretty short indeed, looking at the opposition at Wexford.
