Carlisle and Peterborough are ready to provide goals while Notts County look more than able to beat Sheff Wednesday in League 1.
Pre-season League 1 title favourites Southampton are still yet to convince, despite the recent appointment of Nigel Adkins as manager and there’s little appeal in the odds-on quotes doing the rounds ahead of Saints’ south coast tussle with high-flying Bournemouth.
The Cherries are up in second place having won three of their last four but their better form has been at home and so they’re a risky proposition at 4/1 with Betfred, especially as the hosts are slowly but surely steadying the ship.
The St Mary’s clash looks like one to swerve from a betting perspective then, although in-form Bournemouth marksman Michael Symes would be worth considering at 13/5 (Paddy Power) to notch if his side were at home.
Meanwhile the match betting is also worth avoiding in another contest involving early promotion contenders, namely Carlisle and Peterborough, though that’s not to say that there’s no value to be found at Brunton Park.
Aided by home advantage, it’s the Cumbrian outfit that deservedly shade favouritism at 6/4 with Coral but Posh are sufficiently dangerous to dissuade a flutter on the hosts and instead we’ll look at a goals-related wager.
Greg Abbott’s troops have the best defensive record in the division but if there’s any side that can cause them trouble at the back it’s prolific Peterborough. Meanwhile at the other end, Posh have one of the leakiest rearguards in League One and so the home side should have no trouble breaking them down; all of which adds up to a wager on Totesport’s 4/5 for both sides to find the net.
Sheffield Wednesday are now winless in five following a midweek stalemate against Oldham and Notts County can capitalise on the Owls’ malaise by sending them home from Meadow Lane empty-handed. The Magpies have won their last three at home and also chalked up an impressive midweek win at Peterborough so they look absolutely huge at 6/4 courtesy of Ladbrokes.
Stan James quote leaders Brighton at 6/5 to prevail at Tranmere, but Rovers’ away win on Tuesday strips appeal from that price and a tastier alternative is to be found at Home Park. There Plymouth (5/6, William Hill) can overcome Hartlepool but punters should focus on Bradley Wright-Phillips, who has four in four; he can spoil the visitors’ impressive away defensive statistics by getting on the scoresheet, an outcome Paddy Power quote at 21/10.
Recommended Bets:
Both teams to score in Carlisle v Peterborough – 4/5 (Totesport)
Notts County to beat Sheffield Wednesday – 6/4 (Ladbrokes)
Bradley Wright-Phillips to score at any time for Plymouth against Hartlepool – 21/10 (Paddy Power)
