Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday including Akeed Champion in the Newmarket 16:35. Compare odds and bet.
With the rain preventing Limato from lining up in this afternoon’s Hungerford Stakes, the most interesting runner on the card at Newbury is Agent Murphy (2:35) in a competitive looking Geoffrey Freer Stakes.
Brian Meehan’s unexposed four-year-old has a bit to find with a few of these and, with only seven going to post (thus limiting each-way options), he makes a little less appeal, but at the prices he is worth a small interest.
The Cape Cross gelding won a Listed event on his return to action at Ascot, before shaping with promise in a Group 2 in France. He proved he handled cut in the ground on that occasion and, with the prospect of more to come over this sort of trip, he makes some appeal at an overnight 7-1.
At Newmarket Akeed Champion (4:35) might be capable of defying top weight, for Richard Fahey and 3lb claimer Jack Garritty.
The Dubawi colt finally shed his maiden tag at Redcar last time (on soft ground, should the rain hit HQ, too) and an opening mark of 80 looks fair. He has been in the notebook ever since making a hugely encouraging racecourse debut at Ascot last September and he has always been held in some regard. The selection opened up 4-1 on Friday evening.
Saturday’s selections:
2:35 Newbury Agent Murphy
4:35 Newmarket Akeed Champion
