Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Besharah in the Ascot 2.05 and Simply Rouge in the Newcastle 4.30. Compare odds and bet.
Ascot’s King George card gets underway with a couple of decent two-year-old contests, starting off with the Listed Winkfield Stakes, in which just four go to post.
Sixth Sense certainly sets the standard, but Mark Johnston’s runner takes on a couple of taking debutant winners in the shape of Manaafidh and Platitude. The former flew home at Newmarket and rates an exciting prospect, but the opening bet of the day comes in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes.
Twice a winner over 5f, including at this track on debut, Besharah (2:05) returned here to finish third to Acapulco in the Queen Mary, before going down by just a nose to Albany winner Illuminate in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes.
William Haggas’ Kodiac filly saw the 6f trip out really well that day and a reproduction of that form ought to be good enough here.
Up at Newcastle, the five-runner fillies’ handicap is an interesting contest, with Sherry having shown fair form in both bumpers and on the Flat, and the same can be said of Simply Rouge (4:30) who is very much of interest on her handicap debut.
The Croco Rouge mare won a Market Rasen bumper in May, having earlier chased home Grade 2 winner Barters Hill and an exciting prospect in the shape of Two Taffs, and she showed plenty of promise when fourth on her second start on the level.
Dropped in trip last time, an opening mark of 75 could well underestimate Peter Niven’s five-year-old and she is taken to get off the mark under Andrew Mullen.
