Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Wednesday; Highland Reel in the Goodwood 2.35 and Decorated Knight in the Sandown 7.35. Compare odds and bet.
Winner of the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at the meeting 12 months ago HIGHLAND REEL (2:35) is potentially a class above his rivals in this afternoon’s Gordon Stakes.
Aidan O’Brien’s Galileo colt finished runner-up in the Prix Du Jockey Club, before appearing to disappoint in the Irish Derby.
He needs to leave that run behind and also still has to prove his stamina over 1m4f, though he holds a St Leger entry so connections clearly believe he’ll stay. If he does, he’ll be tough to beat on form, as he drops down to Group 3 company having competed exclusively at the top level this term.
Andrea Atzeni heads from Goodwood to Sandown for their evening fixture and the King George winning jockey looks to have a good chance aboard DECORATED KNIGHT (7:35).
A one-time Derby entry, Roger Varian’s Galileo got off the mark at Haydock recently and, though he is forced to carry top weight, an opening mark of 85 looks fair judged on his debut second at Doncaster.
Wednesday’s selections
2:35 Goodwood – Highland Reel; 2/1 Paddy Power
7:35 Sandown – Decorated Knight; 2/1 Ladbrokes
