Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Wednesday; Take a Bow in the 3.20 at Uttoxeter and Free Eagle in the 4.20 at Ascot. Compare odds and bet.
With just four career runs to his name Free Eagle (4:20) remains open to considerable improvement as a four-year-old and, given his record fresh, he is fancied to land this afternoon’s feature, the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, on his reappearance.
A winner on debut at two and after a year off when belatedly returning to action last September, the High Chaparral colt has conditions in his favour (whereas stable-mate Forgotten Rules might not tomorrow) and can strike under Pat Smullen. Dermot Weld’s lightly raced charge was readily available at 3-1 overnight.
Uttoxeter stages a fairly decent jumps card this afternoon, with the bumper a race of some interest, while Take A Bow (3:20) is worth a small interest in the novices’ handicap chase, for which he is the outsider of six (10-1 overnight).
Formerly with Nicky Henderson, the six-year-old won a maiden hurdle at the track on his debut for Lawney Hill last July and remains on a fair mark. The Norse Dancer gelding appeals as the type to take to fences and, while this is a competitive little heat, I think he could have been over-looked in the market.
Wednesday’s selections:
3:20 Uttoxeter: Take A Bow; 12/1 Skybet
4:20 Royal Ascot: Free Eagle; 3/1 Stan James
