Vettel 13/5 for Singapore GP

Live on BBC1: Sun 12.45: The Red Bull’s of Seb Vettel (13/5 Boylesports) and Mark Webber (7/2 Blue Sq) will dominate the betting for this weekend’s GP in Singapore but Lew Hamilton is absolutely desperate to reclaim his spot at the top of the Championships.

Hamilton, 5/1 with 888sport for the race, is 5 points behind Webber after surrendering his Championship lead last week at Monza but Sportingbet still make him 3/1 2nd fav to claim the title from team-mate Jenson Button.

Onto Singapore, another street style race where down force counts for everything on sharp turns very similar to Monaco which will play right into the hands of Red Bull and, to an extent, the Renault team. Picking a winner here will be difficult – Red Bull have the power, Alonso has the form, Hamilton has the desire and talent and that’s all aside from the fact that tight street corners can cause unexpected crashes allowing less fancied names through onto the podium.

William Hill put 9/2 on in-form Ferrari man Fernando Alonso and he has a pretty good record in Singapore. He is definitely one to keep an eye on, his immense talent should ensure he gets round so Paddy Power’s 5/6 on him getting on the podium is a good place to start.

In the Red Bull camp, Vettel and Webber take race favouritism due to the sheer power of their car and, despite Vettel’s failure to convert many pole positions, he has achieved 2nd and 3rd at the similar style races of Monaco and Hungary. Vettel is a great shout to be on pole position, which is 2/1 with Ladbrokes. Webber has yet to finish a race at Singapore and there are more tempting bets out there than backing the Australian.

Lewis Hamilton reckons that the McClaren has been prepared for nearly 2 months for this street race and the increased down force will make them competitive. Hamilton, 5/1 with 888sport outright, and Button, 12/1 at Boylesports outright, will certainly offer a strong challenge as Hamilton will surely push his hardest to stay in the title fight. Button surprised many with a 2nd in Monza last time out and for those who like short odds, 1/2 (Blue Sq) for Button to get in the top 6 looks very good. Hamilton bettors should perhaps look elsewhere as there is a very real chance his exuberance may prove to be too much for the course and a retirement may be on the cards.

Finally, Renault’s Kubica and Ferrari Massa and drivers to watch out for. Kubica, who faired so well at Monaco to come 3rd, is 25/1 to win with Totesport and 9/2 (Betfred) to sneak on to the podium here. Massa, who has 4 top 4 finishes in a row, is 10/3 at Coral to get in the medals.

It’s Red Bull v Ferrari this weekend, Red Bull to pole and perhaps win in the form of Vettel. In fact, Ladbrokes offer 1/1 about the winning car being a Red Bull while Bet365 say 7/2 for the winner to be Ferrari. That is a very attractive split stakes proposition.
