Live On Sky Sports 2: Thu 18.00: Angus Loughran previews the golf from The Tour Championship in Atlanta as the PGA Tour’s best go head to head for a massive purse.
While most Europeans are now fully focusing on next weeks Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor over in USA there is still some great action with the Top 30 on The Fedex Cup standings battling it out for big money in the final event, The Tour Championship at East Lakes Atlanta.
Without Tiger Woods and with Phil Mickleson not at his best, the Americans who have not yet reached the golfing limelight have a chance to shine over next fortnight both at Tour Championship and Ryder Cup. Dustin Johnson has taken his PGA defeat on the chin and is currently the man to beat and has a great chance here this week but it is Steve Stricker whom I am going to back. Known to many as Mr September, I expect a bold showing from a golfer who saves his best for this month of the year; he is 17/2 at Sportingbet. Paul Casey at 16/1 (Totesport) could easily make Colin Mongomories decision to leave him out of his Ryder Cup team an embarrasing one with a win on Sunday.
Zach Johnson at 25/1 (Betdaq) and Hunter Mahan 33/1 (Betfred) both have each way chances in an event with no cut and bookies betting 4 places for the 30 man field event.
On The Ryder Cup front, Europe are 8/11 at Skybet with Coral putting 7/4 on the USA but despite some recent support The Americans will start next week at the biggest odds any American team has ever been in this great competition.
