Live on Sky Sports 1: Sun 15.30 & Mon 20.00: Peter Sharkey has three Scottish Premiership picks this week including a 7/2 double (bet365).
The installation of one of the top flight’s form teams, St Johnstone, as 5/4 favourites (BetVictor.com) to overhaul the not inconsiderable threat of Hamilton (2/1, bet365) at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, is wholly understandable.
Granted, the Saints lost 1-0 at Hamilton earlier in the campaign when the newly-promoted side were in the middle of a nine-match unbeaten run which saw them head the league table for a short spell, but the turnaround in St Johnstone’s fortunes since they lost to Rangers in the League Cup in October has been remarkable.
However, while St Johnstone have yet to record a home draw (and Hamilton have drawn only once away from home) Stan James’s 12/5 odds, posted about the stalemate, holds plenty of appeal.
Following their draw at Parkhead last Sunday, Ross County are 3/1 (Skybet) to claim three points at Dundee (10/11, Betway) this weekend, although punters have also backed the draw in various guises, with Ladbrokes’ 9/2, chalked against both halves finishing on level terms proving especially popular.
Few backers appear to be anticipating a goalfest when Partick (2/1, BetVictor.com) host Dundee United (7/5, bet365), which explains the popularity of Stan James’s 8/11 marked in favour of the match yielding fewer than 2.5 goals, while the 11/2 available at Winner.com for the contest to end one apiece has proved the correct score market’s most attractive result.
Paddy Power rate the chances of Inverness’s contest against St Mirren finishing as a score draw at 10/3, although home advantage accounts for Caley’s 4/7 price (William Hill), while Betway chalk 15/4 against the Highlanders enjoying a one-goal margin of victory.
In-form Aberdeen are 10/11 (Paddy Power) to overhaul Motherwell (3/1, William Hill), and home advantage appears unlikely to work in Kilmarnock’s favour when they host Celtic on Monday. A 1-0 victory for the stuttering champions is priced at an attractive 7/1 by Betway.
