Spokesman Dave Jenkins said: “Worthington is a Sheffield Wednesday legend, and it was interesting to see him stalling on contract negotiations with Northern Ireland this week. We think he is being lined up, and to be honest he is desperate to get back into league management. He does seem a big runner to us.”
Sean Cottrill is second favourite at 9/2 closely followed by caretaker boss Sean McAuley at 5s.
Gareth Southgate and Keving Keegan come next in the betting at 7/1 with former Peterboro boss Darren Ferguson a 10/1 shot.
