Betrescue Director David Russell gives his weekly preview of all the weekend’s top flight action in Scotland.
Re-established at the top of the SPL table, Rangers have an opportunity to extend their lead (if only for 24 hours) over Celtic when they host Motherwell at Ibrox. Ladbrokes anticipate only one outcome, pricing ‘Gers at 1/4 to collect maximum points. Yet while ‘Well are an understandably long 11/1 (Victor Chandler), they have drawn five of their seven away fixtures, a record which adds appeal to Partybets’ 9/2 for it to finish all-square.
Following their 1-1 draw in September, five of their last seven league encounters between St Johnstone and St Mirren have ended in stalemate, while only once in the last 14 league meetings has the outcome been settled by more than a single goal; it follows that Jaxx.com’s 12/5 odds posted against another draw have proved popular.
The fixture’s most frequently selected score in the correct score markets is 1-1, rated a 6/1 shot by Boylesports, while Sportingbet post an enormous 11/1 against it finishing goalless.
Bottom pair Kilmarnock and Falkirk meet at Rugby Park, with Jim Jefferies’ men Betdaq’s clear 11/10 favourites; bet365 post 3/1 about a Falkirk success, but this looks like a home banker. Less certain is the outcome of Hamilton’s duel with fourth-placed Dundee United. Betfred chalk 12/5 against the Accies scoring their third home win of the campaign, but United, yet to lose away from home, are attractively priced at 13/10 by Stan James to edge closer to Hibs.
Three of the last four league fixtures between Hearts and Celtic have finished level, while the Edinburgh men beat Celtic 1-0 in a League Cup tie in October. It follows that Sportingbet’s 5/1 for the Tynecastle side to overhaul Celtic on Sunday looks generous, though the same could be said of Betdaq’s 13/2 for it to finish 1-1.
A draw also looks on the cards when Aberdeen host Hibs at Pittodrie: Betfred chalk 4/1 against both halves ending level and Partybets offer a 1-1 outcome at 11/2.
