Betrescue Director David Russell gives his weekly preview of all the weekend’s top flight action in Scotland.
Despite having suffered just one home defeat all season, Hibs nonetheless kick off as bet365’s 7/2 underdogs when they welcome Rangers to Easter Road on Sunday.
Admittedly, Hibs have not beaten Rangers at home since September 2006, but they drew 1-1 at Ibrox in October and 11/1 (Sportingbet) to score a 1-0 victory, they look overpriced. Walter Smith’s league leaders are Betdaq’s 4/5 favourites, while Betfred post 5/2 about the draw; another 1-1 is priced at 6/1 by Boylesports.
Despite last weekend’s welcome victory over St Mirren, St Johnstone travel to Fir Park on Saturday as Jaxx.com’s 3/1 outsiders, with Motherwell offered at 10/11 by Victor Chandler. A repeat of August’s thrilling draw is rated a 12/5 shot by Stan James.
Elsewhere, Ladbrokes dangle 9/2 against both halves finishing on level terms, while Sportingbet post an enormous 11/1 against a goalless outcome.
Based upon their respective form over the last eight league matches, Aberdeen and St Mirren occupy the SPL’s bottom two places, positions that offer little in the way of festive cheer.
Punters anticipating a close encounter when the pair meet on Saturday may fancy the 6/5 posted by Boylesports against the opening period ending in stalemate. If that appeals, then Partybets’ 11/2 for Aberdeen to win following a drawn first half also tempts.
At Parkhead, Celtic (1/5, bet365) should have little difficulty overhauling Hamilton (16/1, Betdaq) and Dundee United, Ladbrokes’ 4/7 favourites, should win at a canter when they host Kilmarnock, Betfred’s 5/1 outsiders.
Matters promise to be significantly closer at Falkirk where Hearts are the visitors. The Jambos have managed a single away win this term, yet Victor Chandler prices them as their 6/4 favourites to secure maximum points on Saturday. Granted, Falkirk have racked up only one home victory, but buoyed by last week’s moral-boosting success at Kilmarnock, they look a little overpriced at 2/1 (Stan James) to register back-to-back wins.
