Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Tuesday; Cue Card in the Exeter 14:15. Compare odds and bet.
Exeter stages a cracking card on Tuesday, with the 2m1f novices’ hurdle a particular highlight. Hello George won well for this column last month, but faces a much stiffer task under his penalty this afternoon, with exciting bumper winners Jollyallan and King’s Tempest the pair to take my eye.
Both look potentially smart recruits and, while the former has the best bumper form, King’s Tempest is a strapping son of Act One who will appreciate today’s track more than Warwick and he makes his debut for a stable in fine form. Both should be monitored closely and the latter may represent a bit of each-way value (though I expect he will be backed from first show).
The feature Haldon Gold Cup sees one of last year’s leading novices Balder Succes return to action, but I’m taking a chance on Cue Card (2:15) on his first start since the King George on Boxing Day.
Colin Tizzard’s stable star was beaten in this race off the same mark last year, but is better off at the weights with Somersby and did land the contest two years ago. It is possible that he will need this to put him spot on for the Betfair Chase at Haydock, but at around 7-2 I can’t resist siding with the class act in the field.
With question marks over several higher in the market (including the selection) I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pepite Rose outrun her odds for the in-form Venetia Williams.
Tuesday’s selection:
2:15 Exeter: Cue Card; 10/3 Stan James
