Fergie’s Saturday double

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Le Vent D’Antan in the Naas 2.10 and Irving in the Wincanton 3.15. Compare odds and bet.

Despite ending last season on a negative note, with a disappointing effort in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, the Paul Nicholls-trained Irving (3:15) remains a smart prospect and can land Wincanton’s Elite Hurdle.

The six-year-old impressively won his first four starts over hurdles, twice striking in Grade 2 company, and today’s sharp track should prove right up his street.  The Singspiel gelding proved himself on easy at both Ascot on Kempton last year, so any deterioration in the ground should not prove an inconvenience.

The selection has a new partner in the form of Sam-Twiston Davies this afternoon and the pair can make the most of the 12lbs he receives from former Champion Hurdler winner, Rock On Ruby.

Over in Ireland, Le Vent D’Antan (2:10) is taken to land what looks a warm beginners’ chase at Naas.

Liz Doyle’s five-year-old has long been held in high regard and he started to fulfill his potential when scoring impressively at the Punchestown Festival in late April.  The Martaline gelding has the look of a chaser, however, and it would that Doyle seems to be wasting no time in switching him to fences.

Saturday’s selections:
2:10 Naas: Le Vent D’Antan
3:15 Wincanton: Irving
