Today’s Kempton card has cut up slightly from the five-day entries, but the Sunbury track still stages several interesting events, including the 2m5f handicap hurdle.
The pair to focus on here are Brother Brian and Royal Regatta (2:35) and, as I was with the latter when the pair clashed in April, I’m prepared to give him another chance as they meet on 10lb better terms.
The selection was pulled-up that day, having earlier disappointed in the Martin Pipe and it could be that he prefers a flatter track. On his hurdles debut last October, he was too good for recent handicap winner Spirit Of Shankly at Aintree, before following up in taking fashion at Leicester.
The wheels came off a little thereafter and he would probably appreciate drier ground but, with the Hobbs stable in such good order and the dead eight going to post, the King’s Theatre gelding looks worth an each-way bet at 6-1 with Bet365.
Brother Brian won the aforementioned Cheltenham contest during April, having earlier run well in the EBF Final, a race that has worked out particularly well since. Hughie Morrison’s six-year-old looks sure to run his race and, given his progressive profile, probably deserves to head the market.
