Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Tuesday; Hello George in the Exeter 14:40. Compare odds and bet.
Philip Hobbs and Paul Nicholls have dominated Exeter’s 2m1f novices’ hurdle over the past decade, winning it four times and three times, respectively, and the trainers look to go head-to-head in the event again this afternoon.
Alcala represents the champion trainer and, having finished fourth in the Adonis Hurdle on his sole start in Britain last term, he is clearly very much respected, but Hello George (2:40) looked useful in bumpers and can provide Hobbs with a fifth success in the race since 2005.
The Westerner gelding was placed in decent contests at Aintree and Chepstow either side of last year’s summer break, before scoring on heavy ground at Sandown the best part of a year ago.
His trainer recently stated that he was deliberately then left alone with this season in mind and, given the entries he has held of late (this race and the maiden hurdle at Cheltenham, in which Hobbs also has a fine record), you would have to think he is held in pretty high regard.
The selection probably needs to step forward on the form he has shown to date, but he appeals as the type to make his mark over jumps and, at the likely prices, he is favoured over his main market rival.
