Paul Ferguson has two selections from Uttoxeter on Thursday; Battle Born in the 2.30 and Grove Silver at 3.30. Compare odds and bet.
A cracking card at Uttoxeter on Thursday, where the brace of novices’ hurdles look particularly interesting events that both include several interesting recruits.
Charlie Longsdon’s Battle Born (2:30) was a very smart bumper performer last season and, while he would probably appreciate softer ground and a bit further as the season goes on, he is taken to make a winning debut in the 2m contest.
A winner at both Warwick and Bangor before finishing sixth in the Grade 2 at Aintree, expect the son of Kayf Tara to race prominently under Noel Fehily and take some pegging back.
Jonjo O’Neill, who has his string in fine order, saddles expensive purchase Champagne At Tara, who boasts a reasonable level of form over hurdles, whilst local trainer Jennie Candlish runs a cracking long-term prospect, in the shape of Grande Antarctique.
Runner-up in both of his bumpers, the four-year-old is very much one to watch with the future in mind, while his stable-mate Grove Silver (3:30) could be worth supporting each-way in the extended 2m4f contest, an hour later.
Again, this looks a warm event, with classy bumper performer Carningli likely head the market for Rebecca Cutrtis and the Old Vic gelding could be difficult to beat, if jumping proficiently on his first start for 300 days.
Likewise, the selection showed a fair level of form when scoring in bad ground at Newcastle in February (travelled really well) before finishing fourth in a slowly run event at Haydock, on much quicker ground, the following month.
The extra half-mile will suit this afternoon and, though he is another that would appreciate a softer surface, he is worth being with at the odds.
