HORSE RACING: Our All-weather tipster Alan Thomson, former racing editor of the Daily Record, pulls out two more potential bookie bashing tips that are running at Lingfield Park on Saturday.
The application of a first-time visor may do the trick for RAVI RIVER (2.30) at Lingfield on Saturday.
David Evans’ six-year-old drops into selling company having struggled to regain the winning thread since scoring off a similar handicap mark over seven furlongs here in October.
He looked a shade one-paced when fourth of five (not beaten far) by Ile Nastase at Kempton last month but had previously run with plenty of encouragement back at Lingfield on December 30 when beaten just over two lengths behind Pegasus Again in a Class 4 handicap. A repeat of that effort would make Ravi River the automatic choice in this grade.
MISTER NEW YORK (4.10) arrives here at the top of his game since trainer Noel Chance decided to alternate between nine furlongs and a mile and a half.
Mister New York had too much toe for Blue Bajan over the shorter distance at Wolverhampton last time and meets that rival on favourable terms in this tight little handicap.
Blue Bajan will appreciate this stiffer test and should put up a bold show along with course and distance winners Dance The Stars (held by Mister New York on an earlier Lingfield clash) and Pactolus. However, the most potent danger may come from Mark Johnston’s hat-trick seeking King’s Salute.
The four-year-old won decisively here over 1m 5f in November and Joe Fanning will want to ensure there is a true end-to-end gallop, with his mount’s stamina not in doubt.
A brisk gallop will play into the hands of Jim Crowley on Mister New York as my selection likes to assume a stalking position before swooping fast and late.
Tally Ho
Alan
