Live on Sky Sports 1: Sat 12.45: Peter Sharkey has four Scottish Premiership picks this week including a 5/1 double (BetVictor).
It’s an incredible record, but one that has served punters well in recent seasons – namely Celtic’s sterling defensive performances against St Mirren.
In the pair’s last dozen league meetings, St Mirren have managed to score only once. Their single goal came in a 1-1 draw in March last year. The other eleven fixtures have ended with Celtic claiming three points without conceding a goal.
This statistic means that backers not quite tempted by William Hill’s 4/11 for Celtic to secure maximum points may prefer Paddy Power’s evens for the champions to retain a clean sheet. Alternatively, Skybet post 11/8 against Celtic winning without conceding. Again.
Following last weekend’s disappointing 2-1 reverse at Inverness, St Johnstone and table-topping Dundee United go head-to-head on Saturday in what promises to be another compelling contest.
The pair’s quartet of league duels last term produced a total of ten goals which, considering only one team scored in all four games, is a statistic which enhances the appeal of bet365’s 4/5 odds for Saturday’s match to yield more than 2.5 goals.
Unbeaten at home, United go into the fixture as Stan James’s 10/11 favourites, with the Saints opening at a surprisingly long 3/1 with BetVictor.com; the draw is available at 23/10 (Skybet).
Last season’s meetings between Inverness and Aberdeen were invariably tight: one ended all square, the other three were settled by a single goal. Ladbrokes offer 10/3 against the Dons enjoying a one-goal margin of victory on Saturday in a match they kick off as 11/10 jollies (Winner.com); Betway post 13/2 about a 1-0 home success.
Honours were ultimately even between Kilmarnock and Partick last term too and Stan James’s 12/5 odds, chalked against the draw, has proved understandably popular; a 1-1 outcome is priced at 6/1 by bet365.
Meanwhile Hamilton, unbeaten away from home, travel to Motherwell as BetVictor’s 9/5 underdogs, a surprise given that ‘well have managed just one goal at home so far this season. The Steelmen open as Skybet’s 13/10 favourites, but there could be greater merit backing Hamilton, who are 12/1 at Winner.com to register a 2-0 win.
Ross County were unbeaten in three matches against Dundee when the pair last locked horns in 2012-13, but with Ross winless and pointless so far this term, their 7/4 price (Paddy Power) suggests they’re unlikely to continue their decent run against Saturday’s opponents. Instead, Dundee look good value at 17/11 (Stan James) and at 9/1 (Betway) to secure a 2-1 victory.
