HORSE RACING: Alan Thomson, former racing editor of the Daily Record, pulls out four more potential bookie bashing tips for the all weather meeting at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
BENEDICT SPIRIT (5.10) has enjoyed a new lease of life recently and is napped to complete a quick Wolverhampton hat-trick on Saturday’s interesting card.
My selection has been kept busy over the winter but there was plenty to like about the way he quickened up to beat Calculating in a muddling tactical affair last week. Doubnov should ensure a brisk gallop and Martin Lane should get a lovely tow into the race on Benedict Spirit from just off the pace.
Ideally, MAHADEE (2.15) could have done with a slightly longer trip in the opener but his track craft should see him getting the job done. He hammered Abbondanza here last season and his fourth place in the Lincoln trial reads well. Mahadee should arrive here spot on after two Lingfield victories, the most recent when getting up on the line to force a dead-heat over the sharp seven furlongs. Mia Boy’s second to Gitano Hernando here last September is smart form, while Souter’s Sister finished third in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket last autumn.
FLIPANDO (3.25) justified favouritism in the William Hill Lincoln Trial 12 months ago and is poised for a repeat performance off a 4lb higher mark. Jamie Spencer produced him with his usual late flurry that day and Flipando comes here on the back of a breathtaking performance over what was considered an inadequate six furlongs.
THEBES (4.35) showed the benefit of an earlier pipeopener when keeping Onceaponatime (winner since) at bay last time and a 3lb rise keeps him competitive. Tiddliwinks boasts a course success but is posted very wide and will need luck in running.
Tally Ho
Alan
