HORSE RACING: Alan Thomson, former racing editor of the Daily Record, pulls out four more potential bookie bashing tips for the all weather meeting at Lingfield on Saturday.
THE Sportingbet Winter Derby provides a stark contrast to this week’s Cheltenham jamboree and TRANQUIL TIGER (3.35) can continue his love affair with Lingfield.
A winner here on his last two starts, Tranquil Tiger slammed Presvis by three lengths in November, then pipped one of today’s rivals Suits Me the following month. Henry Cecil’s six-year-old enjoys a marginal weight pull with the runner-up and Tom Queally should be able to adopt a handy position behind free-running Suits Me before pouncing late.
Mark Johnston relies on GREYFRIARSCHORISTA (3.00) from a multiple entry in the Sportingbet Spring Cup and, having won his last three races by an aggregate of 28 lengths, the handicapper has possibly been lenient with an 8lb rise from his last solo victory.
Stablemate AL FARAHIDI (5.50) is tightly matched with Mejd on their placed efforts here earlier in the month but the Johnston horse was making his debut then and just gets the nod with that experience under his belt.
The apprentices’ Hands and Heels final gives some budding stars the opportunity to showcase their talents and no youngster has impressed me more lately than Kieren Fox. He gets the leg-up on PRINCE OF THEBES (1.55) and this front-runner is perfectly boxed in stall one to enjoy the run of the race.
Tally Ho
Alan
