Betrescue’s Chief Sports Writer Chris Hutcheon takes his weekly look at all the big games in the Championship, League One and League Two.
After an excellent run that brought them to the brink of the play-offs, Coventry have gone off the boil a touch of late, taking just two points from their last four games and there’s every chance that they will fail to win again this weekend, despite being bet365’s 11/10 favourites, ahead of the visit of struggling Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls are in desperate trouble towards the foot of the Championship but under Alan Irvine have looked relatively solid for the most part and they were unfortunate not to emerge with more than a couple of draws from a trio of recent tough away fixtures.
Boosted by their late winner in midweek, albeit at Hillsborough, Wednesday can translate their new found resilience on the road into a victory at the Ricoh Arena; a result priced by Stan James at a generous 3/1.
The remaining matches in the Championship don’t produce any stand out value but League One bucks that trend with three home teams catching the eye.
Firstly, Brentford are evens with Ladbrokes to follow up Tuesday’s credible draw at Colchester by defeating Leyton Orient at Griffin Park, Brighton are 10/11 (Betdaq) to improve on their disappointing home record by seeing off travel-sick Tranmere and having snapped a three-match losing streak last weekend, Huddersfield look generously priced at 5/4 with Paddy Power as they host stuttering Charlton.
In League Two meanwhile, struggling Grimsby could be the team to follow as they head to league leaders Rochdale. The Mariners are tough to beat and although bet365’s 10/1 for them to land all three points at Spotland is perhaps a touch ambitious, Betfred make them 2/1 when they have the benefit of a goal start in the handicaps.
