The Corsican 6/1 @ Doncaster

Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Thursday; The Corsican in the Doncaster 15:15. Compare odds and bet.

Doncaster’s extended 1m2f handicap looks one of the more interesting races of the day, in which John Gosden’s lightly-raced Long Cross has to be taken very seriously.

An easy winner at Newmarket last time, the Cape Cross colt is bred to be smart and could easily be a pattern-class performer in time, but this is no easy task on just his third career start.

Therefore, he is taken on at the prices, with a couple making plenty of each-way appeal.  The first being the returning Arab Dawn, who made giant strides before finishing fifth at Royal Ascot, but marginal preference is for The Corsican (3:45) who scored rather cosily at Goodwood last month.

David Simcock has described his Galileo colt as a late-developing type and he is more than capable of going close here off a 7lb higher mark.  A smooth traveller, the easier ground won’t inconvenience him and, at 6-1 this morning (PaddyPower), he is worth backing each-way.

Thursday’s selection:

3:45 Doncaster            The Corsican 6/1 PaddyPower
