The Capitals finished with 121 points, earning them the President’s Cup for the best total in the whole league and the highest total in NHL for 4 years. Detroit Red Wings, who were last year’s beaten finalists and 2008 Stanley Cup winners, are 9/1 with Stan James. Whilst they have had a unspectacular season, they will not have to face strongly fancied Chicago until the Conference Finals, by which time they will be one step from the Stanley Cup Final.
For an outside bet, Buffalo Sabres represent some value at 22/1 with Betfred. They won the North-East Division and are 3rd seed in the conference. They reached the Conference finals in 05/06 and 06/07, when they won their division, but have not qualified since.
