FOOTBALL BETTING:: Falkirk remain bet365‘s 11/8 favourites for the drop, Kilmarnock are into 2/1 froms 3s at Coral and St Mirren are now 21/10 at Paddy Power to finish bottom. David Russell previews
Five points separate St Johnstone from Aberdeen, but Partybets have had no hesitation installing the Saints as their 6/5 favourites to extend that gap to eight. The Dons, by contrast, boasting an away defensive record bettered only by Rangers, are Paddy Power’s 11/4 underdogs; online firm Jaxx.com offer the draw at a persuasive-looking 12/5.
All three meetings of the sides this term have seen first half goals, a record which adds appeal to Victor Chandler’s 7/1 for the opening period to finish with the score at 1-1. Elsewhere, Betdaq’s 11/10 for the fixture to yield more than two goals (as two of this season’s three encounters already have) cannot be discounted.
Falkirk and Hamilton have drawn twice already this season and another draw, priced at 12/5 by 888Sport, cannot be ruled out. Punters who concur can get 4/1 (Jaxx.com) against both halves ending on level terms and 6/1 (Betfred) about it finishing 1-1 at 90 minutes.
As each of the last six fixtures between Hearts and Motherwell have ended in home victories, there’s little to suggest the trend is about to come to a juddering halt. In fact, Betdaq’s 6/5, posted in favour of a Hearts success, looks one of the day’s best bets. However, five of those six home wins have been by a single goal, a record which adds appeal to both bet365’s 10/3 for Hearts to win by one goal and Ladbrokes’ 6/1, chalked in favour of a 1-0 Jambos’ victory.
Elsewhere, it’s difficult to see the relegation battle involving St Mirren and Kilmarnock ending in anything other than stalemate (12/5, Paddy Power); a goalless outcome is priced at 8/1 by Partybets.
A draw could also be on the cards at Tannadice where Dundee United host Celtic. Four of their last seven meetings have finished in stalemate and Totesport post 11/2 against it ending 1-1, while Victor Chandler offers 14/1 about a 2-2 result. However, United are confident they can beat Celtic and punters who agree may fancy Stan James’s 5/2 for the home side to harvest maximum points.
Finally, Rangers will be the SPL’s only side to take to the field as odds-on favourites this week (7/10, William Hill) when they travel to Easter Road where they should finally clinch the title. Hibs have not beaten Rangers since 2007 and at 9/2 (bet365), they appear unlikely to end that run on Sunday. 888Sport mark 6/1 against a 1-0 Rangers success, while Stan James offers 7/1 about Walter Smith’s men recording a 2-0 win.
