Its the final weekend of the SPL season with issues to be resolved at the bottom and for the last Europa League place. David Russell previews
Tension will be in the air at Kilmarnock where the bottom two contest a winner-takes-all duel. Both teams have beaten the other once this term with their third encounter finishing level. Totesport offer 12/5 against the draw and bet365 post 11/2 in favour of a 1-1 outcome, a result that would suit Killie, who start as William Hill’s 13/10 favourites. Falkirk, quoted at 12/5 by Victor Chandler, simply must win and 888sport offer 8/1 against them securing a 1-0 victory.
Considering Dundee United have lost just once against Hibs in their last 12 league encounters, they look incredible value to overhaul the Edinburgh side on Sunday.
United are Stan James’s 6/5 choice to claim maximum points and confirm their status as Scotland’s third-best team. Hibs, who collapsed against Motherwell in midweek, are Partybets’ 11/4 outsiders, but a 2-0 home victory, priced at 13/2 by Betfred, looks one of the day’s most compelling wagers.
Elsewhere, Paddy Power price Hearts at 9/2 to register maximum points when they host Celtic on Sunday.
Neil Lennon, now a front-runner to get the Celtic manager’s job full time, will want to close the campaign on a high; punters who suspect he’ll be granted his wish can back Celtic at 5/6 (Ladbrokes) to win.
Meanwhile, though they scored six when staging a remarkable comeback in midweek, Motherwell are 8/1 (Betdaq) to score a victory at Ibrox on Sunday where the champions are 4/11 with Jaxx.com.
Aberdeen have twice beaten St Mirren this season, although their late 1-0 reverse in January at St Mirren Park was their first defeat by the Buddies since 2001. Despite this impressive record, the Dons start tomorrow’s encounter as Betdaq’s 12/5 underdogs, odds – and a status – with which it is difficult to argue.
Victory for St Mirren, who have survived their battle against the threat relegation, would move them to within a point of the Dons and their quoted at a 11/8 by Betfred to secure three points. Given each side’s propensity to draw this term, Totesport’s 11/4 posted against the stalemate is worthy of further consideration; a goalless outcome is priced at an attractive 10/1 by Paddy Power.
Finally, as they enjoy home advantage, Partybets are content to make St Johnstone their 6/5 favourites to close their season on a very respectable 50 points. Opponents Hamilton, just a point behind St Johnstone, kick off as bet365’s 12/5 outsiders while Jaxx.com offer the draw at 12/5.
