FORMULA ONE BETTING: Mark Webber claimed victory for Red Bull in Catalunya, Alonso was 2nd and Vettel notched a 3rd, more points for Red Bull. Hamilton went out with a puncture.
Mark Webber claimed 1st place in the Spanish GP in Catalunya as he led from pole to flag, the 10th straight year in which that has happened at this circuit.
Webber moves to 4th in the Driver’s Championship and is 8/1 with Betfred to finish top. His team mate, Sebastien Vettel, managed third place which keeps him 3rd in the standings and 6/4 with totesport for the title.
Fernando Alonso had a fine race, not for the first time this season, claiming 2nd. He is 10/3 with 888sport to win the Championship and if Ferarri can make a few more tweaks to the car, Alonso could be in with a serious shout for the title. Schumacher had his best race of the campaign, notching 4th. The car had been greatly improved for this race and it showed, Mercedes getting valuable points on the board. Schumacher is 40/1 with Ladbrokes to finish top.
The British drivers had mixed fortunes. Lewis Hamilton showed great driving skill to head into the penultimate lap in 2nd place but a puncture meant he couldn’t finish the race. Button started and finished in 5th, keeping him top, just, of the overall Championship. Hamilton is 11/2 with Betdaq, Button is 9/1 with Blue Square.
Red Bull are 4/6 with Boylesports to win the Constructor’s Championship after an impressive 1st-3rd display. That is the 5th consecutive pole position for Red Bull and there are signs of more to come. William Hill put 5/2 about McClaren to win it and at 9/2 (888sport), the feeling is that Ferrari cannot be carried by Alonso alone.
