DARTS BETTING: Live On Sky Sports 1: Mon 19:00 The Semi’s and the Grand Final of the Darts Premier League, the final night of the regular season, comes from the Wembley Arena.
Few players of any sport in the world have a comparable record of success to that of Phil Taylor.
The 15 time world champion is going for his 5th Premier League title in 6 events, James Wade was the man who bucked the trend last year, and is 2/7 with Ladbrokes to do so.
Taylor has once again been imperious this season, unbeaten in the league, winning 12 of 14 match ups. It would be difficult to back against Taylor and the form he has been in and Simon Whitlock is deemed his nearest challenger at 11/2 for the title with bet365.
Semi Final 1 – Wade v Whitlock
Last year’s winner James Wade managed to avoid a show down with Taylor in the semi’s by beating Jenkins and cashing in on King’s loss to Whitlock, leapfrogging King into 3rd place. Wade is a quality darts player but Whitlock has hit form at a crucial time. Whitlock beat King last week, effectively setting up this tie with Wade and Wade himself the week before. The 4/6 offered by Vic Chandler on Whitlock seems fair enough but perhaps a little skinny for a semi final. Wade is as big as 11/8 with Betfred.
Whitlock should carry over his form into the semi finals and he can book his place in the final. The 1/1 with Boylesports with a -1.5 game handicap on Whitlock is not tempting enough so it is perhaps more prudent to back Whitlock to win the title now (11/2, Skybet) and hedge bets in the final.
Semi Final 2 – Taylor v King
Taylor just seems to go from strength to strength in the PDL and this is reflected by the 1/12 William Hill are offering about him.
King has slightly lost his way of late, with 1 win in his last 5 matches. In fact, in his last 3 games he has only won 8 legs. King is 9/1 with Sportingbet to prevail.
Taylor will no doubt mean stiff resistance from a bit of a grudge opponent (think King throwing a dart over Taylor’s head last year) and it was King who actually knocked Taylor out last year. Dutching a correct score of 8-4 (5/1) and 8-5 (13/2), both with totesport, might provide some value.
