England once again head into a test match with Bangladesh as heavy favourite, this time 1/5 with Paddy Power.
The test at Lords ended with a decent 8-wicket victory for England in the end but an inspired Bangladeshi 2nd innings, coupled with a day of rain, made England backers wary of the draw for at least a day.
Bangladesh backers can take a fairly pointless 33/1 at Ladbrokes if they wish but it really deserves to be longer. England will rack up runs once again but perhaps the draw, at 6/1 with Boylesports, should not be ruled out;
Firstly, Old Trafford is in Manchester, Manchester is wet. Very very wet. It’s as good as guaranteed that some time will be lost to weather but England did show that they could win comfortably in about 3 and a 1/2 days of cricket.
Secondly, Bangladesh have begun to rack up some of their best scores against England. Prior to 2010, their best test innings against England was 316 in 2005. They have scored 6 of their top 7 highest test-innings scores against England in 2010, the top 3 all this year. The 382 at Lords was the highest ever in England and 2nd highest ever versus England (which was set 2 months ago). It’s no coincidence, Bangladesh, whilst miles off the pace, are beginning to get used to the test game and producing players who can cope with the format.
England haven’t lost in Manchester since May 2001 and it doesn’t look likely to change. Ladbrokes have 1/1 about Iqbal being top series scorer for Bangladesh, who is currently top with 158 runs. He is followed by Siddique who is 7/2 and on 132 runs (also Ladbrokes).
Steven Finn had a fantastic 1st test against Bangladesh and has been quoted as 5/2 2nd fav by Ladbrokes (behind Anderson) to take the most wickets for England in the 1st innings.
In other news, Sidebottom comes in to replace injured Bresnan, Sidebottom will be hoping to reignite his test career on the back of some impressive displays in the Twenty20 World Cup.
