Punters looking for clues for the big field races on the straight course at Royal Ascot this week were given an early indicator on Sunday when clerk Chris Stickels issued GoingStick readings which suggest that the far rail has an edge over the stands’ side.
The readings for the straight course on Sunday afternoon were 9.0 on the stands’ side, 8.8 on the centre and 9.2 on the far side. The round course reading was 8.5
King’s Stand Stakes:
Nicconi and Kingsgate Native go head to head in the Royal Ascot opener, Nicconi is as short as 9/4 at Will Hills but best price 10/3 at Betdaq. Kingsgate Native is 7/2 at Betfred.
Gold Trail is attracting attention, Paddy Power moving into 9/1 from 12’s. This will be due to the half decent draw in stall 8 (see going above) and Portelli’s ramping up of his chances in the Australian press.
Queen Anne Stakes:
A cracking race sees top milers from Ireland, Britain and France go head to head, Goldikova remains market fav of 7/4 at Ladbrokes, no real move over the weekend.
Aidan O’Brien has voiced genuine concerns about Rip Van Winkle’s fitness ahead of the Queen Anne Stakes but the punters nor the bookies have reacted yet, remaining at 5/2 in general, 11/4 at Betdaq.
Blue Sq move Paco Boy to 5/2 from 3/1.

Bet365 have also taken a wedge off Zoffany, going to 3/1 from 4/1.
