WORLD CUP BETTING: The odds continue to fluctuate in the World Cup outright; Spain were turned over and so were the markets, people pouring back into Brazil.
Spain made a real mess of their World Cup campaign last night by losing their opener to Switzerland, hardly an auspicious start for the ‘New Brazil’.
Most bookies have made a jump from about 10/3 or 7/2, all the way to 5/1, as in the case of Ladbrokes and Paddy Power. Skybet lead the way at 11/2. Spain’s defeat has had a ripple effect on the rest of the market as punters look elsewhere for a winner. Consequently, Argentina came in to 11/2 (Will Hills, Totesport) from 6/1 and 13/2, Germany are generally 7/1 from 9/1 (888sport), a further 2 points shaved off without playing. Even England’s drift has been halted, Sportingbet going back to 8/1 from 9’s.
Uruguay have been installed as 8/13 favs to win group A (Skybet)after dismantling South Africa and their outright has dropped to 50/1 from about 80/1 (Paddy Power). Diego Forlan’s brace put him top of the goal scoring charts and his odds have plummeted in from the 50 and 60/1 mark to 12/1 with Victor Chandler.
Chile showed some nice touches against Honduras, Coral playing it cautious by cutting them to 50/1 from 66/1 but Honduras is by no means a tough enough test, Spain await.
Unfortunately for South Africa, it all seems to be over as they must defeat France and hope for fortunate results elsewhere. Bafana Bafana are now 16/1 at Betdaq to qualify and avoid being the 1st host nation to go out at the 1st round.
